Financials and Fundraising

$2,468,700 Raised so far
out of $3.1 Million

To acquire the properties at 2326 Sky Vue Lane and 620 Rosencutter Road, Flint Hills Breadbasket (FHBB) has committed $1.24 million from our own resources, supplemented by $500,000 in generous contributions from our early supporters. In collaboration with Kinetic Fundraising and a dedicated team of MHK community members, we are actively fundraising to secure the necessary funds for remodeling and expanding our programs.

UPDATE: We've rECEIVED Keys to new site

On September 13th, FHBB officially received the keys to our future home. After completing the final sale, Steve reached out to Karla to let her know the building would soon be ready for us. Our next fundraising meeting will take place at the new site, allowing the FHBB Board of Directors and Fundraising Cabinet members to walk through and explore the space together.

We are a non-profit food network serving the communities of Manhattan, Fort Riley, Riley County and St. George. Our on-site program (The Market) supports weekly visits to anyone experiencing food insecurity.

Our mission is to provide reliable access to healthy food, build connections with community partners, and empower neighbors to meet their basic needs.

frequently Asked Questions

Why does FHBB need a New building
Picture
FHBB has outgrown our current location. In May 2022, there were 476 visits. Fastforward to April 2024, food assistance need more than tripled with 1,612 total visits in one month. This rise along with an increase in partnerships and other services has resulted in us reaching our capacity at 905 Yuma St.
When Will FHBB services Moved? / When will guests start using the new facility?
We don't have a specific date right now. We're hoping to move services late 2024/early 2025 after renovations are planned to be finished.
Will FHBB close during the move?
It's a little too early to say. If closing for a few days is necessary to operate effectively, we will make sure other food resource information is available on our website, social media pages and communicated to our guests.
How will guests get to the new location?
Picture
Vehicles, bus, bikes and walking! The majority of our guest drive or catch a ride to get to FHBB. ATA Bus has been a great option for our guests to use for transportation with the K-18 Connector stopping a 3 minute walk away.

Guests can also visit one of our partners located in the downtown area and west side of MHK for food assistance.

Why can't FHBB renovate the current building?
We need to move and we are excited for our new location! We worked with Anderson Knight last year to see if either renovating or expanding our current location was the best option and overall, it was not. Just doing a renovation was not going to best serve our community in the long term with the constraints of the building size at 905 Yuma St.
What is going to happen with FHBB's current facility at 905 Yuma St?
We don't have a specific date to completely leave 905 Yuma St. Once we do, ownership of the building will transfer to the City of Manhattan.
How is this project funded?
FHBB  was able to purchase our new home free of debt with $1.5M from our savings and generous contributions from early supporters. Our Building a Healthy Future campaign will raise the $2.74M needed to improve and equip the space for our specific needs. We plan to raise these funds through grants/foundations, corporate donations and individual donations.

In 2022, FHBB reduced barriers, welcoming families experiencing food insecurity. Since then, there has been a steady growth in utilization with unique visits more than doubling. FHBB is significantly limited by current space restrictions. Only 12 people can comfortably fit in our waiting room and 3 individuals can shop in The Market for food. With an average of 70 household visits per day and 90 new families per month, our current building has reached its capacity.

2326 Sky-Vue Lane & 620 Rosencutter Road

Our new location comes from the purchase of 2 adjacent buildings from Furniture Warehouse. These buildings will maintain dedicated space for cold and dry storage, provide more warehouse space, and significantly expand the capacity for guests. Visitors to The Market @ FHBB will see shopping space that feels normal, with reduced wait times, and more dignity afforded to each person.
