First applied for SNAP benefits in February 2026, with the support of FHBB and his employer. He has had the same job and lived in the same residence for over ten years. He has supported himself on a very limited budget and never had anyone help him access additional support until recently. Although he has a cell phone, he does not utilize email, has no home computer/internet, and lives a relatively simple life. His employer helped him apply for Medicare and contacted him with another agency to assist with the SNAP process. Together, they printed his bank statements, copied his lease, and helped him gather the other documents needed for verification; then they completed the application, scanned and uploaded the documents to the portal, and with his permission, completed the phone interview while he was at work. The process took the help of several people over the course of multiple days, and that support will likely be needed every time his case is reviewed. His finances are limited, but stable over time.

She works two part time jobs to support herself and her son. Her wages are supplemented by disability income she receives for her son. She has lost SNAP benefits in the past when her work hours have fluctuated, moving her income above the allowable limits.

Diabetes and cancer treatment pulled her from the workforce and have severely limited her resources. She is extremely rent burdened, with only $66 left for all expenses each month. She is on the wait lists for several housing programs, but has not been able to reduce that expense, making SNAP and the local food program her primary food sources. Changes to her medical coverage have caused her to have to change prescriptions and seek support from Dispensary of Hope to access her medications. She has gone for periods of time without access to insulin. Her cancer and other medical conditions require constant monitoring. Managing her health, finances, and basic living is complicated daily. She frequently seeks help to make sure that she is understanding and staying on top of her responsibilities. Although she has an email account, she is not comfortable in the digital age and needs help to double check forms, scan documents, and navigate systems.

She is a single mother of four. Her oldest child died in January 2024. She has worked at a restaurant since 2021 and currently earns $12.25/hour. She was convicted of Aggravated Robbery in 2016 and was in the custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections from May 2016 until September 2020. She completed multiple programs during her confinement, including substance abuse recovery, tenant responsibility, interpersonal violence, money management, and active parenting. Her 14-year-old son is technically in the custody of his father, but lives with her. He lived with his father while she was incarcerated, and part of each paycheck is garnished to pay the accumulated child support debt.
